Educational Departments of Provinces, Autonomous Regions, Municipalities and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corp,

In order to meet the needs of the development of Chinese language teaching, NOCFL(China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language)/ Confucius Institute Headquarter has developed and activated a new version of the HSK test paper (the new version is abbreviated as New HSK, the old test that is still in use is abbreviated as HSK). The results of the pilot and first tests of New HSK showed that the cut-off store of New HSK 4, HSK 5, and HSK 6 is 180, equivalent respectively to Grade C of HSK Elementary, Intermediate and Higher Certificate.

In view of the coexistence of New HSK and HSK at the moment, we have decided to bring the following matters into your notice in order to maintain the consistency of Regulations of Overseas Students’ Enrollment with HSK Certificate.

No.1. Overseas students are able to get enrolled to Chinese colleges and universities with either the HSK Certificate or the Test Report Form of New HSK.

No.2. Cut-off score of New HSK is 180, a rough equivalence of Grade C of HSK Certificate. For international students majoring in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine (except for Chinese Medicine), Economics, Law, Management, Education, etc. who are granted with Chinese Government Scholarship, passing the exam is the requirement after taking one-year preparatory courses. Schools have rights to decide what level of Chinese language self-financed students should reach.

No.3. Schools have rights to decide which test (New HSK or HSK) their students should take.

No.4. Please inform related educational institutions as soon as possible.
