Information on Application for Residence Permit

China Work Visa

Z Visa holders must submit the following documents to apply for a Residence Permit:

1. Foreigner Visa Documents Application Form;

2. A photo that meets the specified requirements;

3. The original and photocopy of registration receipt of temporary lodging from hotel or local police station;

4. The original valid passport, or other international travel documents, and photocopies of the identity page, valid visa page and the page bearing the latest entry stamp;

5. The original and photocopy of a work permit (Alien Employment Permit or Foreign Expert Certificate) issued by competent authorities like local Human Resources and Social Security Department or Foreign Experts Affairs Authority;

6. Letter of Certification issued by the employing entity stating the employment period and job description;

7. The employing entity must also register with the Exit-Entry Administration Department of the local Public Security Bureau;

8. The original and photocopy of the employing entity’s Business License (Duplicate) with certificate/records of annual inspection;

9. The original and photocopy of Certificate of Approval with certificate/records of annual inspection, if the employing entity is a foreign-invested enterprise or joint venture enterprise;

10. The original and photocopy of Certificate in Employing Foreigners, Private Non-enterprise Legal Person Registration Certificate and Permit in Running the School with certificate/records of annual inspection, if the employing entity is an education or training institution;

11. The original and photocopy of Foreign Enterprise Representative Work Permit and Certificate of Foreign Enterprise Representative, after the representative set up an office in Shenyang with official approval;

12. The original and Photocopy of Business License (Duplicate) /Certificate of Registration of a performance place in this city with the annual inspection seal on it, provided by the employing entity if the applicant is a performer, together with the original and photocopy of Archival Certification of Performance Place, and official documents of approval issued by the competent culture authority;

13. Documents of certification issued by the competent authorities of the Chinese Government and the original and photocopy of Foreign Expert Certificate or Alien Employment Certificate, if the applicant is a foreign high-level talent and urgently needed specialist on a visa other than the Z visa; Foreign Investment Approval Certificate (copy included), and Business License (copy included) if the applicant comes to invest;

14. Health Certificate issued within 6 months by local Health Quarantine Department or a health care sector at or above the county level.

 

China Journalist Visa

A J Visa Holder must submit the following documents to apply for a Residence Permit:

1. Foreigner Visa Documents Application Form;

2. A photo that meets the specified requirements;

3. The original and photocopy of registration receipt of temporary lodging from hotel or local police station;

4. The original valid passport, or other international travel documents, and photocopies of the identity page, valid visa page and the page bearing the latest entry stamp;

5. Official letter and the original and photocopy of Press Pass issued by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Provincial People’s Government;

6. The employer must register with the Exit-Entry Administration Department of Public Security Authority;

7. Health Certificate issued within 6 months by local Health Quarantine Department or a health care sector at or above the county level.

 

For Foster Entrustment

An alien child under the age of 18 who is fostered in China and whose parents are overseas Chinese or Chinese of a foreign nationality must submit the following documents to apply for a residence permit:

1. Foreigner Visa Documents Application Form;

2. A photo that meets the specified requirements;

3. The original and photocopy of registration receipt of temporary lodging from hotel or local police station;

4. The original valid passport, or other international travel documents, and photocopies of the identity page, valid visa page and the page bearing the latest entry stamp;

5. The original and photocopy of the applicant’s Birth Certificate; Birth certificate and certification on family relationship issued by the applicant’s home country’s competent authority or notarization authority and authenticated by Chinese Embassy/Consulate General stationed in that country; Chinese version, if the certificate/certification is in English, translated by a formal translation company;

6. Photocopy of the applicant’s alien parents’ passports; photocopy of Certification on Permanent Overseas Residence, if one parent or both parents are Chinese;

7. Notarized foster entrustment signed by both of the applicant’s parents, stating the name of the declared guardian and the length of foster care; foster entrustment, if issued overseas, authenticated by Chinese Embassy/Consulate General in the country concerned;

8. Acceptance of Entrustment or Letter of Assurance issued by the trustee;

9. The original and photocopy of the trustee’s ID card, local permanent household register certification or certification on over 6 month’s residence in his/her actual place of abode;

10. Health Certificate issued within 6 months by local Health Quarantine Department or a health care sector at or above the county level, if the applicant has reached the age of 16.

 

For Private Affairs

An S1 Visa holder must submit the following documents to apply for a residence permit:

1. Foreigner Visa Documents Application Form;

2. A photo that meets the specified requirements;

3. The original and photocopy of registration receipt of temporary lodging from hotel or local police station;

4. The original valid passport, or other international travel documents, and photocopies of the identity page, valid visa page and the page bearing the latest entry stamp;

5. Letter on family relationship (spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children under the age of 18) issued by the individual to be visited and the original and photocopy of the residence certificate of the individual to be visited;

6. Documents of certification by others on personal matters to be dealt with, certification on the need to accompany a student, for example;

7. Health Certificate issued within 6 months by local Health Quarantine Department or a health care sector at or above the county level, if the applicant has reached the age of 16;

8. Letter from the individual to be visited, residence permit of the individual to be visited (copy included) and certification of family relationship (spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children under the age of 18) (copy included) if the visiting relative entered China on a visa other than the S1 Visa;

Certification of family relationship or kinship refers to marriage certificate, birth certificate, foster care certificate, other kinship certification and notarization issued by the relevant competent authorities of the Chinese Government and marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship and of change of information (name, for instance) issued by Chinese Embassies/consulates General in foreign countries

9. Birth certificate, if the applicant is under age;

10. Marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship and of change of information (name, for instance) issued by the competent authorities or notarization departments of the applicant’s home country and authenticated by Chinese Embassy/Consulate General stationed in that country;

11. Chinese version of relevant foreign language documents translated by formal translation companies;

 

For Family Reunion

A Q1 Visa holder must submit the following documents to apply for a residence permit:

1. Foreigner Visa Documents Application Form;

2. A photo that meets the specified requirements;

3. The original and photocopy of registration receipt of temporary lodging from hotel or local police station;

4. The original valid passport, or other international travel documents, and photocopies of the identity page, valid visa page and the page bearing the latest entry stamp;

5. The original and photocopy of the identification of the individual to be visited and a letter stating the family relationship;

6. Health Certificate issued within 6 months by local Health Quarantine Department or a health care sector at or above the county level, if the applicant has reached the age of 16;

7. The original and photocopy of certification of family relationship, if the applicant entered China on a visa other than the Q1 Visa;

Certification of family relationship or kinship refers to marriage certificate, birth certificate, foster care certificate, other kinship certification and notarization issued by the competent authorities of the Chinese Government and marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship and of change of information (name, for instance) issued by Chinese Embassies/consulates General in foreign countries.

8. Birth certificate, if the applicant is under age;

9. Marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship and of change of information (name, for instance) issued by the competent authorities or notarization departments of the applicant’s home country and authenticated by Chinese Embassy/Consulate General stationed in that country;

10. Chinese version of relevant foreign language documents translated by formal translation companies;

 

For Academic Study

An X1 Visa holder must submit the following documents to apply for a residence permit:

1. Foreigner Visa Documents Application Form;

2. A photo that meets the specified requirements;

3. The original and photocopy of registration receipt of temporary lodging from hotel or local police station;

4. The original valid passport, or other international travel documents, and photocopies of the identity page, valid visa page and the page bearing the latest entry stamp;

5. A letter from the host institution with the duration of study clearly stated in it and the Admission Notice or Enrollment Certification;

6. The host institution must also register with the Exit-Entry Administration Department of Public Security Authority;

7. Health Certificate issued within 6 months by local Health Quarantine Department or a health care sector at or above the county level, if the applicant has reached the age of 16;

8. Additional documents of certification (JW201, JW202, etc) issued by the competent authority, if the applicant entered on visa other than the X1 Visa;

9. Letter of agreement from the host institution if the applicant needs to take a part-time job while studying or a letter of agreement from the entity concerned if the applicant is to do off-campus internship, when the applicant needs to apply for a note added to his/her residence certificate for the purpose of academic study by the Exit-Entry Administration Department of Public Security Authority

 

For House Property

A Chinese of foreign nationality who has reached the age of 60 and who has purchased house property in China must submit the following documents to apply for a residence permit:

1. Foreigner Visa Documents Application Form;

2. A photo that meets the specified requirements;

3. The original and photocopy of registration receipt of temporary lodging from hotel or local police station;

4. The original valid passport, or other international travel documents, and photocopies of the identity page, valid visa page and the page bearing the latest entry stamp;

5. The original and photocopy of the Certificate of House Property with the applicant’s name on it or notarized housing purchase/sales contract, and original and photocopy of proof of financial resources;

6. Health Certificate issued within 6 months by local Health Quarantine Department or a health care sector at or above the county level.
