On January 7 morning, the CPG500 track laying machine of China 14th Railway Bureau Group put the first pair of 500m long iron rails on the sleepers safely and steadily. This marks the first high-speed rail connecting Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Northeast China region-----North Xinmin Railway Station of Liaoning and Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, has entered the track laying stage, which created favorable condition to the successful opening of the train route.

The construction of the high-speed rail from North Xinmin Railway Station to Tongliao started from June, 2016. It's one of the component of the medium and long term railway network plan '8 railway lines placed vertically and another 8 railway lines placed horizontally'. This railway line will connect with Beijing---Shenyang high-speed rail under construction now and enter the railway network of Northeast China and even the national high-speed rail network. This railway line runs from the North Xinmin Railway Station to Zhangwu, Ganqika and ends at Tongliao Railway Station. The total length of this railway line is 197km with a designed speed of 250km/h.

This railway line connects and shortens the distance among Tongliao, Beijing and Shenyang. It plays an important role for Tongliao to integrate with Bohai, Liaozhongnan city group, Northeast China economic circle, and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration economic circle. After the construction, the travel time from Tongliao to Shenyang will be shortened from 5 to 1.5 hours. And the travel time from Tongliao to Beijing will be shortened from 14 hours to 3.5 hours.
