On May 5, 1993, Charito L. Planas, vice mayor of Quezon City, led the delegation made up of 13 people paid a friendly visit to Shenyang.On May 7, Shenyang and Quezon City officially established sister-city relationship. Ren Dianxi, vice mayor of Shenyang and Chariton L.Planas, vice mayor of Quezon City, signed on the agreement on behalf of their cities.After the establishment of sister-city relationship, the two cities carried out massive exchanges and cooperations in economy, culture and education.

Basic information of the city

Quezon City is the former capital of the Philippines (1948---1976). It's named after Manuel L. Quezon, the 2nd President of the Philippines. It's one of the 13 satellite cities of Manila. It's the largest city of Metro Manila and Luzon. It takes up about a quarter of Metro Manila. It also owns the most population. The total area of the city is 166.2 square kilometers with a population of about 2.3 million.

Geographical location

Coordinates of the city is 14° 38′ N, 121° 2′ E. It's located at Luzon about 8km on the northeast of Manila.

Climate

Quezon City straddles between a tropical savanna climate and a tropical monsoon climate with warm weather and wet seasons. The average temperature is between 25 and 35 degree centigrade. The annual average temperature is about 27 degree centigrade. Annual rainfall is above 2000mm. Rainfall increases from November to January the next year.

History

Quezon City was founded by the side of Marikina River in 1939. In 1948, in the renaissance program after WWII, the congress decided that Quezon City should replace Manila to be the capital. In November, 1975, Makati integrated with Manila, Pasay and Caloocan, made Quezon City less powerful as a capital. Because it's the former capital, many governments and institutes are in Quezon City. Such as National Assembly, the Philippines house of representatives and the former site of many government buildings and congress are still there. Quezon City is still the policy center and the most wealthy local government.

Administrative division

There are many cities in the south part of Quezon City including: Diliman, federation region, district region, New Manila, San Francisco del Mont and La Mesa Watershed Reservation. The northern part of Quezon City is usually called Novaliches including Fairview and Lagro. These regions doesn't have clear boundaries. Most part of this region is residential area. Besides, Quezon City is subdivided in a total of 142 barangays.

Economy, culture and education

There are two famous universities in Quezon City. They are University of the Philippines Diliman and the Ateneo de Manila University. FEU-Diliman, the extension of Far Eastern University is also in this city.

Quezon City is also the center for entertainment. Many TV stations of the Philippines set their headquarters in this city. Many TV programs, music and movies are all produced there. Thus, it's also called "the Hollywood of Philippines".

Friendly exchanges

May 15, 1993, a 13 people delegation led by vice mayor of Quezon, Charito L. Planas, paid a friendly visit to Shenyang.

May 7, 1993, Shenyang and Quezon officially established sister-city relationship. Ren Dianxi, vice mayor of Shenyang and Charito L. Planas, vice mayor of Quezon, signed the sister-city relationship agreement on behalf of their cities.

September, 1994, Shenyang Foreign Affair Office organized 38 enterprises of Shenyang to go to Quezon, Philippines, to host the exposition of Shenyang products. Light industrial products received great popularity.

October 8, 1994, on the invitation of Quezon, Philippines, Shenyang municipal government organized a trade and exchange delegation to go to Quezon to attend the international trade and exchange fair held from October 9 to October 16.

In 1994, Shenyang municipal leaders were received by the president of Philippines, Fidel V Ramos, during the visit to Quezon.

June 8, 1995, on the invitation of Shenyang Intermediate People's Court, the delegation made up by the Supreme Judicial Court and Quezon Municipal Court led by deputy dean of the Supreme Judicial Court paid a 7-day visit to Shenyang.

In 2007, the active day of Shenyang and Philippine famous Chinese enterprises was held at Quezon, Philippine. This activity promoted the investment of Eton Group and Robinsons Group of Philippines in Shenyang.
