Green color gradually fades away at present, but the feast of color still remains in Shenyang. If you pass by Wulihe Metro Station recently, you will see the "Chinese cabbage" planted in the green belt there. But the color is a little different from the vegetables we usually eat. The leaves in the outside part might be jade green, deep green, greyish green and yellow green. But the ones inside might be white, light yellow, nude, rosy and amaranth.

Many netizens showed the "Chinese cabbage" on their Weibo. Some of them raised the questions such as "Are they vegetables or flowers?" or "How can these vegetables not afraid of the cold weather?"

Our reporter went to Wulihe Metro Station yesterday afternoon and found that there were lots of plants which look quite similar with Chinese cabbages. The leaves in the outer part is green and white. The shape and color differ only slightly with Chinese cabbages. Looking from high above, you'll see the white stamens inside.Working staffs of gardening and urban greening department told the reporter that this flower is named collard. It's the cousin of cabbage and it's not Chinese cabbage at all."Collard is a kind of flower. It's not vegetable." Said the personnel in charge. "It's not edible. Collard is a kind of reformative ornament plant. The leaves are hard and full of fiber. Some people have tried the leaves. They made their tongues tingle." The official in charge warmly reminded the citizens not to try it as a kind of vegetable.

The ornamental vegetables have become the new favorite of urban landscaping. Ornamental vegetables are not a halfpenny the worse than the flowers in the green belt.Horticulture scientists started the research of ornamental vegetables a few years ago. At present, they have developed more than ten varieties.

"Can we plant Chinese chives or Chinese cabbages at the green belt?" Mr. Li, a Shenyang citizen, asked curiously.

Relevant official explained that vegetables, though belong to agricultural plant, are still ornamental. "They are of less ornamental value and are not suitable to be planted at the green belt."

Some citizens think that it's not a good deal to use the green belt as vegetable field.
